About Gilles Gaétan Samen Paho
In psychology, mentalism is defined as the art of understanding the human mind, and more specifically consciousness, through introspection. A mentalist, therefore in psychology, is a person with the ability to put aside his or her personal emotions, perception, and reality in order to immerse him or herself in the skin of another person, in order to determine their reality, perspective, motivations, emotions, and general state of mind.
I'm a self-taught painter from Cameroon who defines himself as a mentalist in the purely psychological sense of the term. Depending on the subjects I tackle on my canvases, I sometimes like to disregard my own reality just long enough to project myself into someone else's skin and introspect. This method allows me to study the subject of my research or preoccupation from different angles, so that I can produce works that are more enlightened and more appealing to others, and also helps me to show more empathy towards others.
My artistic palette encompasses oil paint, acrylic paint, a mixture of various other techniques, as well as murals. My history with art goes back to earlier years when, unaware of the talent within me, I expressed myself through various simple sketches. It was in 2007, at the age of 17, that I decided to hone my talent, and it's with diligence that I've persevered to this day, developing my own style and finding the artistic direction I want to follow.
I particularly like to focus on themes related to spirituality and society. My objectives are, on the one hand, to create works that will leave a lasting mark and inspire future generations, and on the other hand, to contribute to the cultural richness of my people and elsewhere.
