About Nwali Emeka Elijah
As a visual artist specializing in sculpture, I explore the rich tapestry of African culture and contemporary issues through my work. My artistic journey began in 2010, culminating in a degree from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria.
My sculptures, both representational and nonrepresentational, often feature metal as a primary material. I am deeply interested in the fusion of abstract and representational styles, as well as the concept of repurposing ready-made materials. This approach allows me to convey complex ideas and emotions that words alone cannot express.
Through my art, I aim to shed light on African beauty and culture, while also addressing pressing social issues such as inequality and injustice. My work serves as a form of social commentary, often incorporating upcycled and repurposed materials to reflect on human relationship with consumption and the environment.
Art, for me, is more than a profession—it's a voice, a therapeutic practice, and a means of maintaining sanity in a challenging world. As I continue to evolve as an artist, I seek to touch more lives, travel the world, and one day exhibit at the Venice Biennale.
My creative process is dynamic, adapting to each new idea by selecting materials and styles that best convey my intent. Through this approach, I strive to create works that not only captivate the eye but also provoke thought and inspire change.
